You know the table I talked about here and here. Well, a good month or so later and it's finally finished. So fun to eat in our kitchen again. We've affectionately given it the name "The Big Green Lantern." Mostly because we painted it and watched that movie all in the same weekend. Aren't we so clever? When we started the ol' project we thought it would be so easy because we would be able to sand blast it and then slap some paint and stain on. FAIL. Sand blasting went terrible. Talon's happy face below was because I took the photo pre-fail. So, it was back to the drawing board. After Talon literally sanded the top for two good weeks (the absolute worst part of this whole project). You should know something about Talon - he does nothing half way. I would have scuffed it up a little and called it a day. Talon, not so much. It looked like he had just chopped a tree down to make that table top it was so smooth and clean after he got finished with it {which apparently I didn't get a picture of - sorry babe} we applied the stain. Here's a good shirtless photo of Tal applying the 2nd coat of stain. We moved it inside so that we could spray the paint on the pedestal portion of the table {that's the reason Talon is shirtless - it is hot as fire in Alabama right now - he doesn't just walk around doing projects shirtless - even though he should:)}. Oh yeah...we used Minwax PolyShades Mission Oak. It's my new favorite stain. It gave that dark wood color I LOVE.In between coats of stain Talon would go in to the garage and spray a coat of green goodness on the pedestal. He used our paint spray gun - worked wonderfully. You can see all the chairs back there...their makeover came later. I hand painted the bottom rim while the top dried....And there you have it...The Big Green Lantern. Ain't she a beauty???In the pictures above you can see the leaf in the table -- we made sure to stain/paint it too. That way when we have parties/guest we will have plenty of seating. Lots of photos....We used Shamrock by Glidden to pain the pedestal and rim.
We did something different with this project - took our time, didn't rush it. It ended up being more fun that way. We were able to enjoy the process instead of killing our selves trying to finish it all in one weekend. I have a VERY hard time doing this. I kind of like everything done yesterday but I am learning. I get an A for effort :) We are in love with The Big Green Lantern and can't wait to put it to good use!
